alpinestateofmind > You wouldn't usually consider October great for skiing, but on this day we found amazing snow high on Eldorado Peak. Near the summit as darkness approached, we looked back and could see the NW Face of Sahale and Boston Peak blazing in the sun. The next day would be my birthday, this was certainly an early gift! ~ Mount Sahale, North Cascades National Park.

alpinestateofmind > A self portrait of myself on a solo hike, bike and kayak round trip of the Ptarmigan Traverse. A sea of clouds clouds lingers below. North Cascades, Washington.

alpinestateofmind > Shadows have never been as dark as I had this day on Whitehorse Mountain. Nor the light so bright. The obvious line of ascent is followed by Sky Sjue. While he climbs I snap this photo and follow his tracks up thinking all along how wild it is, almost as if I am on the edge of light, about to fall into darkness.
alpinestateofmind > Looking down on the Coleman Glacier, I spot Phil searching for a way through the web of crevasses. Here he sits and ponders. We'd just sked the Coleman Headwall, long time projects of ours and were absolutely thrilled. ~ Mount Baker, North Cascades.
alpinestateofmind > Phil Fortier climbing up a short section of ice before putting his skis back on.
